A Timeline of How Our Family Situation Unfolded

This timeline is intended to provide a general chronology of events as I experienced and understood them. It is not intended to assign motives, determine responsibility, or make conclusions about anyone’s intentions. Some dates are approximate, and I was not present for every conversation or event.

  • For many years: My parents and my brother lived together. I lived approximately two hours away and visited several times a year.
  • Around 2024: My brother was added to my parents’ bank accounts. I later learned that the arrangement involved joint ownership. I also later became aware that changes had been made to the power of attorney and trustee arrangements.
  • October 2025: My father suffered a stroke, beginning a period of significant changes and decisions concerning medical care, finances, legal arrangements, and living circumstances.
  • December 2025: My father entered a skilled nursing facility. Around this time, our family agreed to add me as power of attorney and co-trustee alongside my brother and mother.
  • January 2026: My father was taken to meet with an attorney. Following that meeting, my power of attorney and co-trustee roles were removed.
  • January 2026: My father returned home after leaving the skilled nursing facility, and discussions about possible assisted living continued.
  • April 2026: My mother consulted an attorney for guidance concerning her role as power of attorney.
  • April 2026: My mother and I began exploring assisted living options closer to where I live. There were differing views within the family about where assisted living should be located and under what circumstances a move should take place.
  • May 2026: My father was subsequently moved to an assisted living facility by my brother.
  • June 2026 (approximately): My father experienced a second stroke and was admitted to a rehabilitation facility. We learned of this through communication from my brother’s attorney.
  • July 2026: My father was taken to meet with another attorney. Following that meeting, my mother’s power of attorney and trusteeship for my father were removed.
  • Since July 2026: I have not seen my father and have not been able to independently confirm where he is currently living or his current condition.
  • August 2026: Attempts of the POA to move my father’s trust to another financial firm occurred. Attempt to redirect his pension also occurred.
  • Throughout this period: There were several occasions when the possibility of contacting law enforcement was raised in connection with disagreements or interactions involving family members. These conversations contributed to an increasingly difficult and uncertain family environment.
  • Present: We continue seeking information, appropriate assistance, reconciliation, and a way to reconnect with my father.

This timeline reflects my understanding of events and is intended to provide context for the larger family story. Where I was not personally present, I have tried to identify information as something I learned from others rather than something I personally witnessed.
